These are some of the pieces still available from the Autumn Leaf Collection. The Autumn Leaf Collection began in September of 2010 as an exploration of split triad colour theory, inspired by the brilliant reds, yellows, and blues of autumn. I added more paintings to the collection in 2021 and 2022. Many of the pieces have been sold, and many more reside in my storage room.
My goal is to capture the essential feel of those few days in late September and early October when the leaves are brilliantly red and yellow – those moments between the dark greens of late summer and the long season of dull browns and greys that so characterize autumn and early winter in Calgary – moments of brilliance so short that we almost miss them in our busy day-to-day lives.
The Autumn Leaf Collection has been on public view three times, so far. First, it was a studio show that took place on December 11th, 2010. Then, it was shown at the Iron Horse Art Gallery in Nanton from February 12, 2022 until the end of March of the same year. That fall, it was shown at The Creativity Studio, also in Nanton, and remained there until the Studio closed in early 2023.
